MORE THAN A NAME

Everyone has a story, ours starting nearly two centuries ago. In the heart of Arabia during a time of great change, we began as travelers, pearl merchants and pioneers. Today, we stand as global industrialists, proud of how far we have come, and prouder still of how we got here.

1800s:

Between the fertile coast  of the East of the Arabian Peninsula and the scorching sands of its central region, Najd, the Algosaibis of the 1800s transported goods on camelback. They were assigned in Huraymlah to collect taxes on its governor’s behalf.

Like many Najdi families of prominence in the 1880s, the Algosaibis, constrained by the devastating drought that afflicted Najd, relocated. In 1885, the Eastern Province of Al-Ahsa became the Algosaibis new residence. Extended presence in Bahrain was soon after established. From these two locations began parallel stories of wealth and influence that defined the family for the century to follow.

1900-1950:

Khalifa A. Algosaibi, the eldest son of Abdulrahman, was born an ambitious entrepreneur with forward-looking business ideas, unconventional to his time and region. With very limited resources, he founded a business supplying the Saudi army with food supplies imported from Egypt through the port city of Jeddah.

The Algosaibis’ trade expansion and their multiple social, political and economic roles upheld the family as key players in the Arabian Peninsula’s history. With pearling at the heart of the Algosaibis’ businesses, the introduction of Japanese cultured pearls during the 1930s had an inevitability vast impact on finances.

1960-1970:

In 1963, Khalifa A. Algosaibi, aided by Aramco’s Local Industrial Development Department, successfully established the Khalifa AlGosaibi Fishing Company, owning at its peak over sixteen trawlers and exporting to the United States of America over $5 million worth of shrimp under the brand name “Ocean Reef”.

In 1964, the Khalifa A. Algosaibi Holding Company expanded into the field of specialty commercial diving with the establishment of the Algosaibi Diving and Marine Services Company (ADAMS).

1970-1990:

In the 1970s, the Khalifa A. Algosaibi Holding Company’s largest income was from the Kraft agency awarded to the Cold Store. This decade also witnessed the Group’s expansion to include Spectrum Chemicals, a trusted manufacturer in the United Kingdom of polyurethane and specialty construction systems, as well as construction of the Algosaibi Residential Compound.

Determined to grow without interruption, Khalifa A. Algosaibi continued to invest in new businesses in the 1980s, adding to his already impressive portfolio the Construction Materials Chemical Industries (CMCI) in 1984, and the Arabian Vermiculite Industries (AVI) in 1985. Sigma Paints was also established as a joint venture with today’s PPG Industries.

1990-2010:

The Khalifa Algosaibi Trading Company (KAT) was pioneered in the 1990s, along with the Algosaibi Oil Field Services Company shortly before the fateful death of Khalifa A. Algosaibi in 1995.

2010-2020:

Following its founder’s death in 1995, Khalifa A. Algosaibi Holding Co. continued to faithfully serve multiple sectors of the Saudi economy under the leadership of Khalifa’s sons and grandsons. In 2017, the decision to restructure transformed the Holding Company to a joint stock company under the current name of Khalifa A. Algosaibi Investment Co. (KAI). Excluding joint ventures, Khalifa A. Algosaibi Investment Co. today comprises of sixteen operational subsidiaries and employs over 5000 personnel.
